Torulopsiella

Torulopsiella Bender, Mycologia 24(4): 411 (1932).

Index Fungorum number: IF 10253; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12509, 2 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

       Sterile hyphae creeping on living host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Fertile hyphae superficial, black and cottony, small, wooded, cobwebby, somewhat ragged or somewhat crust-like, exyhyphopodiate. Conidia borne in neck-like chains on the top, very little distinct from the fertile hyphae, one-celled dark green (adapted from Bender 1932).

       Type species: Torulopsiella fumaginea (Speg.) Bender

Notes: Torulopsiella is characterised by superficial, black and cottony fertile hyphae, conidia produced in neck-like chains, one-celled, dark green. Wijayawardene et al. (2017, 2020) listed Torulopsiella in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Torulopsiella.
