Thryptospora

Thryptospora Petr., Sydowia 1(1-3): 52 (1947).

Saprobic on woody and herbaceous substrates in terrestrial habitats. Sexual morph: Ascomata subglobose to globose, scattered to crowded, ostiollate. Peridium composed of pale brown, small, thin-walled cells of textura angularis. Hamathecium of filamentous, numerous, aseptate, branched, anastomosing trabeculate pseudoparaphyses. Asci 8-spored, fissitunicate, cylindrical to cylindric-clavate, with a short pedicel or sessile, rounded at the apex. Ascospores uni- to bi-seriate, fusiform, slightly tapered on the sides, hyaline to brown, 1- to multi-septate, without a gelatinous sheath. Asexual morph: Unknown.

Type species: Thryptospora singularis Petr.

Notes: Thryptospora is characterised by globose ascomata, cylindrical to cylindric-clavate asci and fusiform, hyaline ascospores. Thryptospora lacks sequence data. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed for future studies.
