Solicorynespora

Solicorynespora R.F. Castañeda & W.B. Kendr., Univ. Waterloo Biol. Ser. 33: 38 (1990).

Index Fungorum number: IF 26566; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12482, 25 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Colonies on natural substrate effuse, brown to dark brown, hairy. Mycelium partly superficial, partly immersed in the substratum, composed of branched, septate, pale brown to brown, smooth-walled hyphae. Conidiophores distinct, single or in groups, erect, straight or flexuous, unbranched, smooth, septate, brown to dark brown. Conidiogenous cells monotretic, integrated, terminal, cylindrical, brown, smooth with 0–2 cylindrical percurrent extensions. Conidia solitary, dry, acrogenous, obclavate or obpyriform, mostly 3-euseptate, rarely 2-euseptate, smooth, the lower two cells brown, other cells pale brown to subhyaline (adapted from description of Solicorynespora ligustri in Ma et al. 2012).

Type species: Solicorynespora zapatensis R.F. Castañeda & W.B. Kendr.

Notes: Solicorynespora is characterised by septate, pale brown to brown mycelium, monotretic, integrated, terminal, cylindrical, brown conidiogenous cells and solitary, dry, acrogenous, obclavate or obpyriform conidia. Castañeda Ruíz et al. (2004) and Ma et al. (2011) provided a key to accepted species of Solicorynespora based on conidial morphology. Molecular data is lacking. Wijayawardene et al. (2017) listed Solicorynespora in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Solicorynespora.
