Rupestriomyces

Rupestriomyces Lei Su, Li Y. Guo & Xing Z. Liu, Mycologia 107(4): 839 (2015).

Index Fungorum number: IF 807036; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12460, 3 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 3 species with molecular data.

Colony on MEA growing slowly at 20oC, attaining 17 mm diam after 2 months. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Colonies obverse dark brown to black, compact, reverse black, aerial mycelium sparse. Mycelium composed of cylindrical to elongate cells, hyaline, septate, branched, catenate hyphae sometimes present. Conidiophores micronematous. Conidiogenous cells intercalary, brown, thick-walled, ovoidal. Conidia produced from ovoid conidiogenous cells, subhyaline to pale brown, ampulliform. Swollen cell intercalary or terminal in hyphae (adapted from Su et al. 2015).

Type species: Rupestriomyces ampulliformis Lei Su, Li Y. Guo & Xing Z. Liu

Notes: Rupestriomyces is characterised by dark brown to black, compact colonies, micronematous conidiophores, intercalary, brown, thick-walled, ovoid conidiogenous cells and subhyaline to pale brown, ampulliform conidia. Molecular data is available for all three species, R. sinensis (mt SSU, LSU, BTUB, RPB2), R. torulosus (mt SSU, BTUB, RPB2) and R. ampulliformis (mt SSU, BTUB, RPB2). Wijayawardene et al. (2020) listed Rupestriomyces in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. In-depth phylogenetic analyses are needed to verify the systematic position of Rupestriomyces.
