Rhopographus Nitschke ex Fuckel, Jb. nassau. Ver. Naturk. 23-24: 219 (1870) [1869-70].

Index Fungorum number: IF 4725; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12453, 11 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Stromata sub superficial, elliptic, sometimes confluent, black, 2 or 3 to several locules in each stroma, subprominent. Asci cylindrical. Paraphyses thread-like. Ascospores distichous, sub cylindric, fuscous, 3-septate, strongly constricted, one medial cell often enlarged. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from description of R. bakeri in Earle 1902).

Type species: Rhopographus filicinus (Fr.) Nitschke ex Fuckel

Notes: Rhopographus is characterised by superficial, elliptic, sometimes confluent black stromata, cylindrical asci, and distichous, subcylindric, fuscous, 3-septate ascospores. Information regarding Rhopographus is scarce. Lumbsch and Huhndorf (2010), Kirk et al. (2013) and Wijayawardene et al. (2017, 2020) listed Rhopographus in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Molecular data is lacking. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Rhopographus.
