Pyrenobotrys

Pyrenobotrys Theiss. & Syd., Annls mycol. 12(2): 182 (1914).

 Index Fungorum number: IF 4582; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12441, 2 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Ascomata immersed, lacking ostiole. Stroma absent or only limited to loose hyphae. Asci 8-spored. Paraphyses filamentous. Ascospores brown bicellular (adapted from Theissen & Sydow 1914).

 Type species: Pyrenobotrys confertus (Fr.) Theiss. & Syd.

Notes: Information regarding Pyrenobotrys is scarce. Lumbsch and Huhndorf (2010) and Kirk et al. (2013) accepted Pyrenobotrys in Venturiaceae but Zhang et al. (2011), and Hyde et al. (2013) did not. Wijayawardene et al. (2017, 2020) listed Pyrenobotrys in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Fresh specimen with DNA sequence data is needed to confirm the systematic position of Pyrenobotrys.
