Importance and distribution
Polyrhizon comprises seven species known on Capparis flexuosa (Capparaceae), Cassine sp. (Celastraceae), Cassipourea barteri (Rhizophoraceae), Gymnosporia acuminata (Celastraceae), Lagenaria sp. (Cucurbitaceae), Loranthus pyrifolius (Loranthaceae), Olea laurifolia (Oleaceae), Pterocelastrus galpinii (Celastracea), Synaphea polymorpha (Proteaceae) and Terminalia catappa (Combretaceae). Polyrhizon is reported from Africa (Nigeria, South Africa), Asia (India), South America (Venezuela and Brazil) and Western Australia. One species Polyrhizon bewsii has been transferred to Perischizon.
