Index Fungorum number: IF 4036; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12398, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Perithecia hypophyllous, densely clustered, punctiform, cushioned, often confluent, shell-black. Asci oblong or fusiform, obliquely curved, 8-spored, hyaline. Ascospores parallel, fusoid-filiform, septate, with hyaline droplets, not constricted septa. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from description of Micropeltis marattiae in Hennings 1985).

Notes: Phragmosperma is characterised by hypophyllous, densely clustered, punctiform perithecia, oblong or fusiform, obliquely curved, 8-spored asci and parallel, fusoid-filiform, septate ascospores. Information regarding Phragmosperma is scarce. Lumbsch and Huhndorf (2010), Kirk et al. (2013), and Wijayawardene et al. (2017, 2020) listed Phragmosperma in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Molecular data are not available. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Phragmosperma.
