Phanerococculus

Phanerococculus Cif., Sydowia 8(1-6): 265 (1954).

 Index Fungorum number: IF 9330; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12386, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Pycnothecia assembled, immersed, stromatic. Conidiophores short to papillose or almost absent. Pycnospore fused, hyaline, transversely septate (adapted from Ciferri 1954).

 Type species: Phanerococculus rapaneae Cif.

Notes: Phanerococculus is characterised by grouped pycnothecia, short to papillose conidiophores and fused, hyaline, transversely septate conidia. Molecular data is lacking. Kirk et al. (2013) and Wijayawardene et al. (2017, 2020) listed Phanerococculus in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the generic placement of Phanerococculus.
