Phaeocyrtidula

Phaeocyrtidula Vain., Acta Soc. Fauna Flora fenn. 49(no. 2): 219 (1921).

 Index Fungorum number: IF 3903; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12375, 2 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Apothecia aggregated or scattered simple, forming hemispherical black warts. Perithecium brown, comprising irregular opening of the fissures. Paraphyses rounded off. Asci 8-spored. Ascospores brown, 34 transversely septate. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Vainio 1921).

 Type species: Phaeocyrtidula pinea (Nyl.) Vain.

Notes: Phaeocyrtidula is characterised by aggregated or scattered simple apothecia, perithecia which opens via fissures and 8-spored asci. Information regarding Phaeocyrtidula is scarce. Molecular data is lacking. Lumbsch and Huhndorf (2010), Kirk et al. (2013) and Wijayawardene et al. (2017, 2020) listed Phaeocyrtidula in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of Phaeocyrtidula.
