Phacidina

Phacidina Höhn., Annls mycol. 15(5): 324 (1917).

 Index Fungorum number: IF 3870; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12373, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Ascomata scattered, small orbicular, flattened, coriaceous, black-brown, dehiscent. Paraphyses simple. Asci broadly oblong, slightly attenuate below, but subsessile, with eight spores, cylindrical-clavate. Ascospores narrowed, unicellular, hyaline with two guttules. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Höhnel 1917).

 Type species: Phacidina gracilis (Niessl) Höhn.

Notes: Phacidina is characterised by scattered, small orbicular, flattened ascomata, cylindrical-clavate asci and narrowed, unicellular, hyaline ascospores. Lumbsch and Huhndorf (2010), Hyde et al. (2013) and Kirk et al. (2013) accepted Phacidina in Leptopeltidaceae. Wijayawardene et al. (2017, 2020) listed Phacidina in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Molecular data is lacking. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Phacidina.
