Pendulispora

Pendulispora M.B. Ellis, Mycol. Pap. 82: 41 (1961).

Index Fungorum number: IF 9255; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12363, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Colonies effused, dark blackish brown, hairy. Mycelium partly superficial, partly immersed, composed of branched, septate, subhyaline to olivaceous brown, smooth to verrucose hyphae. Conidiophores formed singly and laterally on the hyphae, erect, simple, subulate, brown, smooth-walled, septate with a few short branches at the apex. Conidia formed as blown-out ends at the tips of the branches, pendulous, fusiform to clavate, drawn out at the base into a long, septate tail, subhyaline to brown, with many longitudinal and transverse septa (adapted from Ellis 1961).

Type species: Pendulispora venezuelanica M.B. Ellis

Notes: Pendulispora is characterised by dark blackish brown, hairy colonies, simple, subulate, brown, smooth-walled conidiophores and fusiform to clavate, subhyaline to brown conidia. Molecular data is lacking. Wijayawardene et al. (2017, 2020) and Kirk et al. (2013) listed Pendulispora in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Pendulispora.
