Dothideomycetes » Dothideomycetes, genera incertae sedis

Peltaster

Peltaster Syd. & P. Syd., Annls mycol. 15(3/4): 261 (1917).

Index Fungorum number: IF 9244; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12359, 31 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 3 species with molecular data (Molecular data also available for some unknown species).

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Pycnothyria hypophyllous, in small orbicular groups, tightly aggregated, inverted, rounded, with superficial mycelium undulates composed of thick anastomosing hyphae. Conidiogenous cells and conidia packed into pycnothyria. Conidia ellipsoidal or oblong, unicellular, olive-color to hyaline (adapted from Sydow & sydow 1917).

Type species: Peltaster hedyotidis Syd. & P. Syd.

Notes: Peltaster is characterised by hypophyllous pycnothyria and ellipsoidal or oblong, unicellular, olive to hyaline conidia. Wijayawardene et al. (2017, 2020) and Kirk et al. (2013) listed Peltaster in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Molecular data is available for three species, P. cerophilus (ITS, LSU, SSU, TEF-1), P. fructicola (ITS, LSU, SSU, TEF-1) and P. gemmifer (ITS, SSU, TEF-1). More fresh specimens with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Peltaster.
