Oncopodiella

Oncopodiella G. Arnaud ex Rifai, Persoonia 3(4): 409 (1965).

Index Fungorum number: IF 9152; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12348, 13 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Imperfect fungi. Hyphomyceteous, saprobes. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Colonies precipitate or punctured dark-brown. Immersed mycelium composed of septate, brown, branched hyphae. Conidiophores scattered or dense, simple, almost colorless to pale brown, 0-1-septate, slender, clipped, straight or flexible, with successive subapical elongating proliferations. Individual conidia arising at the apex of the conidiophores, subtrigonous obovoid or subglobose, smooth, briefly hyaline-papillate, dry (adapted from Rifai 1965).

Type species: Oncopodiella trigonella (Sacc.) Rifai

Notes: Oncopodiella is characterised by precipitate or punctured dark brown colonies, simple, hyaline to pale brown conidiophores, and subtrigonous obovoid or subglobose conidia. Kirk et al. (2013), Wijayawardene et al. (2017, 2020), and Hernández-Restrepo et al. (2017) listed Oncopodiella in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Hernández-Restrepo et al. (2017) designated an epitype for O. trigonella (CBS H-22993) and provided an updated description with illustration. The systematic placement of Oncopodiella is still doubtful. More collections with DNA sequence data are needed to determine the taxonomic placement of Oncopodiella.
