Importance and distribution

Myxophora comprises seven members known on five host plants in Amblystegiaceae, Collemataceae and Placynthiaceae. One species, M. tjibodensis was found infecting filaments of Scytonema, a genus of photosynthetic cyanobacteria (Döbbeler 1978; Esslinger 1996). Myxophora is reported from Asia (Java), Australia (New Guinea), Europe (Austria, Germany, Spain) and Oceania (New Zealand).
