Description:
Parasitic or saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Ascomata 97–180 µm diam., 60–110 µm high, circular, scattered, flattened, superficial, carbonaceous, brittle, black. Peridium 8–15 µm thin, 1-layer, dark brown, comprising cells of textura angularis. Hamathecium 2.5–3.5 µm of dense, septate hyaline to light brown cellular pseudoparaphyses. Asci 40–55 µm × 20–25 µm (x̅ = 44.5 × 23.5 µm, n = 10), 8-spored, bitunicate, fissitunicate, oblong to obclavate, small pedicel, with distinct ocular chamber. Ascospores 19–22 µm × 5–7.5 µm (x̅ = 20.9 × 5.8 µm, n = 10), partially overlapping, with broadly rounded ends, hyaline to pale brown,uniseptate, slightly constricted at the septum, with upper cell shorter than the lower cell, smooth-walled. Asexual morph: Unknown.

Importance and distribution
Myriostigmella comprises only one species described on grass in The United States (Florida).
