Myriangiopsis

Myriangiopsis Henn., Hedwigia 41(Beibl.): (55) (1902).

Index Fungorum number: IF 3360; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12327, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Epiphytic on host. Sexual morph: Perithecia hypophyllous, sparse, common, small, pulviniform, rounded-angular or irregular, sulphurous or sometimes confluent, enclosing very numerous asci, irregularly packed. Asci pyriform, broadly ovate or ovoid, briefly stipitate, 8-spored. Ascospores densely packed, oblong, often slightly curved, transversely 3-septate to the middle of the septum but slightly constricted, hyaline to pale yellowish. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from description of Ascomycetella sulfurea in Winter 1885).

Type species: Myriangiopsis sulfurea (G. Winter) Henn.

Notes: Myriangiopsis is characterised by hypophyllous, sparse perithecia, pyriform, broadly ovate or ovoid asci, and oblong, often slightly curved, transversely 3-septate, hyaline to pale yellowish ascospores. Molecular data is lacking. Lumbsch and Huhndorf (2010), Kirk et al. (2013), and Wijayawardene et al. (2017, 2020) listed Myriangiopsis in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Myriangiopsis.
