Mycoporellum
Mycoporellum Müll., Arg., Revue mycol., Toulouse 6(no. 21): 14 (1884).
Index Fungorum number: IF 3335; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12321, 14 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.
Lichenicolous. Sexual morph: Thallus white, extremely fine, determined or obscured by a limited or enlarged white spot. Apothecia black, rounded, prominent, rugose, not irregular, white-colored within. Hypothecium colorless, paraphyses not distinct. The hymenium gelatin is not stained with Iodine. Asci 8-spored. Ascospores ovoid uniseptate. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Müller 1884).
Type species: Mycoporellum sparsellum (Nyl.) Müll. Arg.
Notes: Mycoporellum is characterised by white, extremely fine, thallus, hyaline hypothecium, 8-spored asci and ovoiduniseptate ascospores. Mycoporellum sparsellum has ascospores which are relatively short and with upper cell markedly shorter than lower cells, common throughout Florida. Molecular data is lacking. Kirk et al. (2013), and Wijayawardene et al. (2017, 2020) listed Mycoporellum in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Mycoporellum.
