Mycocryptospora

Mycocryptospora J. Reid & C. Booth, Can. J. Bot. 65(7): 1333 (1987).

Index Fungorum number: IF 25114; Facesoffungi number: FoF 05169, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Parasitic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Perithecia completely immersed, globular-compressed, with the conical surface forming a black crust, joined together. Ostiole not clear. Paraphyses filiform, very tender. Asci very long, clavate, 8-spored. Ascospores filiform, straight, multiseptate, and easily form single cells, hyaline (adapted from Reid & Booth 1987).

Type species: Mycocryptospora anthostomoides (Rehm) J. Reid & C. Booth

Notes: Mycocryptospora is characterised by globular compressed perithecia, long, clavate, 8-spored asci and filiform, straight, multiseptate, hyaline cells. Molecular data is lacking. Lumbsch and Huhndorf (2010), Kirk et al. (2013) and Wijayawardene et al. (2017, 2020) listed Mycocryptospora in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Mycocryptospora.
