Microdothella

Microdothella Syd. & P. Syd., Philipp., J. Sci., C, Bot. 9(2): 169 (1914).

Epiphytic on host. Sexual morph: Stromata scattered or aggregated on either side, sometimes confluent in pairs, minute, rounded, slightly convex, with black base, at the base of the epidermis, a few hyphae in the hypodermis, solitary, dark brown, opaque at the margin, pale brown with radiating hyphae, remotely septate, slightly curved, interlaced, broad round pore stroma. Asci at first globular, then ovate or oblong, rounded at the apex, sessile, 8-spored, rarely 4-spores, long, broad. Ascospores elliptic or oblong, continuous hyaline. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Sydow & Sydow 1914).

 Type species: Microdothella culmicola Syd. & P. Syd.

Notes: Lumbsch and Huhndorf (2010), Kirk et al. (2013) and Wijayawardene et al. (2017, 2020) listed Microdothella in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Molecular data is lacking. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Microdothella.
