Index Fungorum number: IF 3158; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12290, 2 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Stromata superficial, attached to the epidermis, formed from vertical hyphae, sessile with a broad base, loculi sunken into the stroma. Hypostroma epidermal, paraphyses absent. Ascospores hyaline, 2-celled. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Theissen 1914).

Type species: Microcyclella nervisequia (Höhn.) Theiss.

Notes: Microcyclella is characterised by superficial stromata attached to the epidermis, epidermal hypostroma and hyaline, bicellular ascospores. Lumbsch and Huhndorf (2010) and Kirk et al.
