Manginula

Manginula G. Arnaud, Annals d'École National d'Agric. de Montpellier, Série 2 16(1-4): 218 (1918) [1917].

Index Fungorum number: IF 8841; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12280, 6 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

  See Arnaud (1917).

Type species: Manginula perseae G. Arnaud

Notes: Manginula is characterised by light colored and subcuticular ascomata. Arnaud (1917) found sterile mycelia and pycnidia on leaves of Perseae palustris (Lauraceae) from Green Cove, Florida and sterile mycelia on unknown leaves from Puerto-Zamuro in Venezuela which he treated in Manginula. Arnaud (1917) did not provide a full description only mentioning that the "ascostroma" is light colored and subcuticular. Arnaud (1917) treated Manginula in Fungi Imperfecti based on the mycelial and pycnidial material. Clements and Shear (1931) included Manginula in Leptostromataceae in which the pycnidia are shield-shaped or elongate and flattened. Molecular data is lacking. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Manginula.
