Longiseptatispora

Longiseptatispora L.W. Hou & Crous, in Crous et al., Fungal Systematics and Evolution 6: 198 (2020).

Index Fungorum number: IF 835083; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12270, 2 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 2 species with molecular data.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata pycnidial, (sub-) globose, immersed to erumpent, ostiolate; wall of 1–6 layers of brown textura angularis. Conidiophores reduced to conidiogenous cells, lining the inner cavity, doliiform, ampulliform, phialidic with percurrent proliferation. Conidia variable in shape and size, relatively longer, hyaline, smooth, granular, solitary, (0–)3-septate, (sub-)globose, ellipsoidal or subcylindrical, straight to irregularly curved (adapted from Crous et al. 2020).

Type species: Longiseptatispora curvata Crous & Bulgakov

Notes: Longiseptatispora is characterised by pycnidial, (sub-)globose, immersed to erumpent conidiomata, doliiform, ampulliform, phialidic conidiophores and hyaline, smooth, granular conidia. In the phylogenetic analysis of Crous et al. (2020) based on combined LSU and ITS sequence data, two strains of L. curvata clustered in a distinct lineage in Leptosphaeriaceae. Longiseptatispora is morphologically and phylogenetically a well-defined genus in Leptosphaeriaceae. Molecular markers available for Longiseptatispora include ITS, LSU, BTUB and TEF-1.
