Letendraeopsis

Letendraeopsis K.F. Rodrigues & Samuels, Mycologia 86(2): 255 (1994).

Index Fungorum number: IF 27272; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12263, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Ascomata inoperculate, subglobose to globose, fleshy, pallid, nonstromatic, solitary. Ascomatal wall cellular. Pseudoparaphyses septate, branched. Asci in a basal hymenium, clavate, with a wide endotunica. Ascospores 2-celled, yellow brown. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Rodrigues & Samuels 1994).

Type species: Letendraeopsis palmarum K.F. Rodrigues & Samuels

Notes: Letendraeopsis is characterised by inoperculate, subglobose to globose, fleshy ascomata, clavate asci with a wide endotunica and two-celled, yellow brown ascospores. Rodrigues and Samuels (1994) referred Letendraeopsis to Tubeufiaceae based on the light colored ascomata. Letendraeopsis differs from Letendraea in having nonstromatic, thin-walled, and inostiolate ascomata, subglobose to broadly clavate asci with a truncate base and submedially septate and yellow brown ascospores while Letendraea has ascomata formed on minute basal stromata, globose, nearly white to pale luteous ascomata with an ostiolar opening that is lined with short periphysoidal elements, narrowly clavate asci and translucent brown and medially septate ascospores. Molecular data is unavailable for Letendraeopsis. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Letendraeopsis.
