Index Fungorum number: IF 415519; Facesoffungi number: FoF12255 , Fig. 1

Index Fungorum number: IF 415519; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12255

Description: see Matzer (1996).

Material considered: see Matzer (1996).

Importance and distribution

Lanatosphaera comprises two species. Lanatosphaera dimerellae was found on Dimerella epiphylla (Coenogoniaceae) and L. porinicola was found on Porina epiphylla (Porinaceae) in Central America (Costa Rica). Lanatosphaera species are lichenicolous and form loose associations with the host. They colonize dead lichen thalli and obtain fixed carbon from the host (Lawrey and Diederich 2003).
