Kabatia

Kabatia Bubák, in Kabát & Bubák, Öst. bot. Z. 54: 28 (1904).

Index Fungorum number: IF 8654; Facesoffungi number: FoF 07422, 10 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Spots numerous, superficial, yellowish brown to somewhat dark purplish brown by reflected light, occurring predominantly on the upper leaf surface, initially scattered, minute, slightly discoloring the surrounding leaf tissue, becoming subcircular, finally confluent and irregular. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Pycnidia hypophyllous, frequently epiphyllous as well, circular in outline, situated predominantly along the leaf ribs, surrounded by yellowish brown discolored leaf tissue, occurring singly, strongly protruding, erumpent, dimidiate-scutate, black. Pycnidial wall composed of angular, thick walled, yellow-brown cells. Conidiophores rather indistinct, hyaline. Conidia two-celled, unequally septate, hyaline, somewhat cuneate to falcate, narrowed towards one end (adapted from description of K. valpellinensis in Krug 1977).

 Type species: Kabatia latemarensis Bubák

Notes: Kabatia is characterised by superficial, yellowish brown to somewhat dark purplish brown spots, hypophyllous pycnidia, indistinct, hyaline conidiophores and two-celled, unequally septate, hyaline conidia. Several authors added new species to Kabatia (Species fungorum 2022). Kirk et al. (2013) and Wijayawardene et al. (2017, 2020) listed Kabatia in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Molecular data is lacking. Fresh specimen with DNA sequence data is needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of Kabatia.
