Hysteropsis

Hysteropsis Rehm, Rabenh. Krypt. -Fl., Edn 2 (Leipzig) 1.3(lief. 28): 36 (1887) [1896].

Index Fungorum number: IF 2473; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12244, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Apothecia appear as spots, bulging, elongated, simply embedded under the blackish, membranous cover, which open at the top by a delicate fissure. Hamathecium comprising cellular pseudoparaphyses. Asci 8-spored. Ascospores clavate, parenchymatic with a wide mucous layer. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Rehm 1896).

 Type species: Hysteropsis culmigena Rehm

Notes: Hysteropsis is characterised by bulging, elongated apothecia, 8-spored asci and clavate ascospores. Lumbsch and Huhndorf (2010), Kirk et al. (2013) and Wijayawardene et al. (2017, 2020) listed Hysteropsis in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of Hysteropsis.
