Notes: Hyalotheles is characterised by superficial, globose, black ascomata, oblong to obovoid asci and globose, hyaline, 1-celled, minutely guttulate ascospores. Arx and Müller (1975) placed Hyalotheles in Myriangiaceae. Barr (1979) transferred Hyalotheles to Saccardinulaceae. Lumbsch and Huhndorf (2010) treated Hyalotheles in Elsinoaceae. Li et al. (2011) examined the holotype of H. dimerosperma (LPS 408) and transferred Hyalotheles to Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of Hyalotheles.
