Heptaster

Heptaster Cif., Bat. & Nascim., Publicações Inst. Micol. Recife 46: 3 (1956).

Saprobic or parasitic on sooty molds. Sexual morph: Ascomata superficial, solitary to gregarious, scattered, globose to subglobose, surrounded by brown mycelium at the base, collapsing, easily detached from the surface of the leaf. Hamathecium hyaline, branched, aseptate cellular pseudoparaphyses, embedded in a gelatinous matrix. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, fissitunicate, oblong to clavate, sessile or with knob-like pedicel, with a small ocular chamber. Ascospores 2-seriateor 2–3 over-lapping seriate, fusoid-ellipsoid, rounded and subacute at the ends, hyaline, becoming pale brown at maturity, 1−6-septate, slightly constricted at the septum, minute verrucose. Asexual morph: Unknown.

 Type species: Heptaster hughesii Cif., Bat. & Nascim.

Notes: Ciferri et al. (1956) treated Heptaster in Capnodiales. There is no current study and update on Heptaster. Sequence data is lacking. Heptaster is in Dothideomycetes, genera incertae sedis.
