Importance and distribution

Heptameria comprises three species Heptameria chilensis, H. elegans and H. foliicola. Most species of Heptameria have been synonymized and transferred to other genera such as Alternaria, Amarenomyces, Aquimassariosphaeria, Buergenerula, Byssothecium, Clypeosphaeria, Cucurbitaria, Davidiella, Didymocyrtis, Dothiora, Entodesmium, Ephelina, Halobyssothecium, Kalmusia, Lasiosphaeriopsis, Lepteutypa, Leptopeltis, Leptosillia, Leptosphaeria, Lophiostoma, Massariosphaeria, Melanomma, Metasphaeria, Montagnula, Mycosphaerella, Nakataea, Nemania, Neocamarosporium, Nodulosphaeria, Ophiobolus, Paraleptosphaeria, Paramassariosphaeria, Passeriniella, Phaeosphaeria, Phaeosphaeriopsis, Plenodomus, Pleospora, Pyrenidium, Pyrenophora, Rebentischia, Septoriella, Setoseptoria, Sporormiella, Trematosphaeria, Typhicola and Wettsteinina. Heptameria is a doubtful genus. An attempt to re-collect and sequence the three species is needed to verify the validity of Heptameria.
