Importance and distribution
Infection from Gibbera reduces fruit yield (Smith and Lord 1996). Gibbera is present in the List of Intercepted Plant Pests in the United States (2019). There are 89 Gibbera epithets from Index Fungorum (2022), but several species have been transferred to other genera such as Acantharia, Antennularia, Botryosphaeria, Cyanonectria, Dothidotthia, Echusias, Epipolaeum, Eudimeriolum, Fracchiaea, Fusarium, Gaillardiella, Gibberella, Immotthia, Melchioria, Metacapnodium, Metacoleroa, Protoventuria, Pyrenobotrys, Topospora, Venturia and Xenomeris. Gibbera comprises fifty species known on a wide range of hosts such as Andromeda glaucophylla (Ericaceae), Buxus sempervirens var. elegantissima (Buxaceae), Cassiope hypnoides (Ericaceae), Chamaedaphne calyculata (Ericaceae), Erica arborea (Ericaceae), Liabum pallatangense (Asteraceae), Liquidambar sp. (Altingiaceae), Lonicera involucrata (Caprifoliaceae), Mikania sp. (Asteraceae), Symphoricarpos sp. (Caprifoliaceae) amongst others. Gibbera has been reported from Africa (Canary Islands), Central America (Costa Rica), Europe (Norway, Slovenia, Sweden), North America (Canada, The United States) and South America (Brazil, Ecuador).
