 Type species: Extrusothecium caffrum Matsush.

Notes: Kirk et al. (2008) treated Extrusothecium as a synonym of Leptosphaerulina. Lumbsch and Huhndorf (2010), Kirk et al. (2013), and Wijayawardene et al. (2014, 2020) treated Extrusothecium in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. DNA sequence data is lacking. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the generic placement of Extrusothecium.
