Eriothyrium

Eriothyrium Speg., Boln Acad. nac. Cienc. Córdoba 11(2): 298 (1887) [1888].

Index Fungorum number: IF 8209; Facesoffungi number: FoF 07593, 3 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Parasitic on host. Sexual morph: Perithecia sparse, black, finely membranous. Perithecial wall subprosenchymatic with a translucent texture. Ostiole wide perforated forming a subiculum. Asci ovoid. Ascospores ovoid, gutulate, hyaline. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Spegazzini 1888).

 Type species: Eriothyrium dubiosum Speg.

Notes: Eriothyrium is characterised by sparse, black perithecia, ovoid asci and ovoid, gutulate, hyaline ascospores. Molecular data is lacking for Eriothyrium. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the generic placement of Eriothyrium.
