Dictyopeltis

Dictyopeltis Theiss., Annls mycol. 11(5): 469 (1913).

Index Fungorum number: IF 1534; Facesoffungi number: FoF 05153, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Epiphytic on living leaves, visible as black dots. Hyphae superficial, brown. Sexual morph: Ascomata solitary, flattened, black, ostiolate, forming above a layer of radiate, membranous plant cells. Mycelial pellicle brown, comprising radiate, meandrous, compact hyphae anastomosing at central ostiole. Peridium light brown, with a layer of compressed cell. Pseudo paraphyses filiform. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, clavate to ellipsoid. Ascospores cylindrical, 3-septate, hyaline. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Zeng et al. 2019).

Type species: Dictyopeltis vulgaris (Racib.) Theiss.

Notes: Dictyopeltis is characterised by solitary, flattened, black, ostiolate ascomata, light brown peridium, bitunicate, clavate to ellipsoid asci and cylindrical, 3-septate, hyaline ascospores. Theissen (1913) suggested the placement of Dictyopeltis in Hemisphaeriaceae. Zeng et al. (2019) examined a specimen of D. vulgaris (ZTMyc 56239) and reported that this specimen was different from the protologue in the presence of ostiole and paraphyses, septation of ascospores, and the size of both asci and ascospores. Zeng et al. (2019) excluded Dictyopeltis from Micropeltidaceae based on its brownish upper wall and transferred it to Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis.
