Dictyodochium
Dictyodochium Sivan., Trans. Br. mycol. Soc. 82(3): 517 (1984).
Index Fungorum number: IF 11069; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12189, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.
Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Sporodochia erumpent, punctiform, dispersed to aggregated. Mycelium immersed, with branched septate, hyaline to pale brown hyphae. Stromata partly immersed and partly superficial, brown to dark-brown, setose. The immersed stroma is located in the substromatal cavity and also below the cuticle. The hypostroma more or less expands into a hemispherical or obconical sporodochium. Setae arise from the base of the hypostroma, dark-brown, simple, septate. Conidiophores densely packed together, simple or branched, septate, subhyaline to brown, smooth, denticulate, arising from the stroma and mixed with setae. Conidiogenous cells polyblastic, terminal, sometimes intercalary and discrete, denticulate, denticles mostly short, sometimes elongated, hyaline with unthickened apices. Conidia solitary, appearing falsely catenate, dry, dictyoseptate, with 1-4 (mostly 3) transverse septa and 1-2 vertical or oblique septa often constricted at the septa smooth to verrucose, variable in shape, pyriform, clavate, ellipsoidal, sub spherical or irregular, with a remnant of the denticle remaining as a short pedicel. Conidia may form new conidia on newly developed denticles. On the same stroma are formed ascostromata and pycnidia. Pycnidia similar to ascostromata but formed before the development of ascostromata, superficial on mycelia on the stroma or formed directly on the stroma and presumed to be spermogona forming minute, one celled, hyaline spermatia inside (adapted from Sivanesan 1984).
Type species: Dictyodochium prinsepiae Sivan.
Notes: Dictyodochium is characterised by erumpent, punctiform sporodochia, subhyaline to brown, smooth conidiophores, intercalary and discrete, denticulate conidiogenous cells, and catenate, dry, dictyoseptate conidia, with 1−4 (mostly 3) transverse septa and 1−2 vertical or oblique septa. Molecular data is lacking for Dictyodochium. There is no current study on Dictyodochium. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the generic placement of Dictyodochium.
