Dawsophila

Dawsophila Döbbeler, Mitt. bot. StSamml., Münch. 17: 432 (1981).

Index Fungorum number: IF 1427; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12185, 3 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Superficial hyphae present. Sexual morph: Ascomata merged between the lamellae, seen above, with an elliptic, uncolored outline, smooth, ostiolate. Ascomata often completely reddish, fibrous structure usually visible at the apex of the asci. Paraphyses few, undifferentiated. Asci bitunicate, ellipsoidal, covered in a thick gelatinous layer, 8-spored. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 2-celled, hyaline. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Döbbeler 1981).

 Type species: Dawsophila pygmaea Döbbeler

Notes: Dawsophila is characterised by elliptical ascomata, bitunicate, ellipsoidal asci and ellipsoidal, bi-celled, hyaline ascospores. Molecular data is lacking. There is no current studies or update on Dawsophila. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the generic placement of Dawsophila.
