Cilioplea
Cilioplea Munk, Dansk bot. Ark. 15(no. 2): 113 (1953).
Index Fungorum number: IF 1058; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12162, 7 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.
Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Ascomata small- to medium-sized, solitary, scattered or in small groups, immersed, globose or subglobose, papilla covered with short and blackish setae, coriaceous. Peridium thin, comprising small heavily pigmented thick-walled cells of textura angularis. Hamathecium of cellular pseudoparaphyses. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, fissitunicate, broadly clavate, with a short, furcate pedicel, and small ocular chamber. Ascospores fusoid to narrowly fusoid with narrowly rounded ends, pale brown to reddish brown, multi-transverse septa, usually with one longitudinal septum in some central cells, constricted at the primary septum. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Munk 1953).
Type species: Cilioplea coronata (Niessl) Munk
Notes: Cilioplea was introduced by Müller (1951) as a subgenus of Pleospora. Munk (1953) raised Cilioplea to genus rank with C. coronata as type species based on its hairy papilla, clavate asci and “perfectly paraphysoid”. Crivelli (1983) accepted a narrow concept of Pleospora with four species namely C. coronata, C. genisticola, C. kansensis and C. nivalis. Barr (1990b, 1992b) added six other species. Zhang et al. (2012) re-examined the holotype of C. coronata under the code M 175-89-290 and referred Cilioplea to Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Sequence data is lacking for Cilioplea. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of Cilioplea.
