Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Ascocarps globose to ovoid, semi-immersed, becoming superficial, ostiolate, light coloured, coriaceous, hairy, periphysate, solitary, and with pseudoparaphyses. Peridium pseudoparenchymatous. Asci 8-spored, saccate to clavate, pedunculate, bitunicate. Ascospores ellipsoidal to subovoid, one septate somewhat above the centre, hyaline, appendiculate. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Hyde 1989).

Notes: Capillataspora is characterised by hyaline to pale brown, globose ascocarps, hyaline, septate pseudoparaphyses, hyaline, pedunculate, bitunicate, 8-spored asci and subovoid, one septate, hyaline ascospores. Sequence data is lacking for Capillataspora. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of Capillataspora.
