Calyptra

Calyptra Theiss. & Syd., Annls mycol. 15(6): 478 (1918) [1917].

Parasitic on host. Sexual morph: Perithecia superficial, very minute, roundish-leniform, densely covered with algal, membranous-sub carbonaceous, densely covered with dark black crust surrounding almost all branches. Asci elliptic-clavate or sometimes below clavate or subpyriform, coarsely tunic at the apex, on a short and thick pedicel, abruptly tapering, octospore-aparaphysate. Ascospores irregularly disjointed, ovate-clavate, middle uniseptate, not or scarcely constricted, tunic. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from description of Asterina cordobensis in Spegazzini 1880).

 Type species: Calyptra cordobensis (Speg.) Theiss. & Syd.

Notes: Calyptra is characterised by superficial, minute, roundish-leniform perithecia, elliptic-clavate asci and irregularly disjointed, ovate-clavate, middleuniseptate ascospores. Sequence data is lacking for Calyptra. Calyptra is currently in Dothideomycetes, genera incertae sedis. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the generic placement of Calyptra.
