Asteroporum

Asteroporum Müll. Arg., Revue mycol., Toulouse 6(no. 21): 14 (1884).

Index Fungorum number: IF 428; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12134, 3 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. No thallus. Sexual morph: Apothecia peridial and monohymenia. Peridium subglobose, with apex at length (phacidioid) astroid-lobed-aperture and a single disc completely denuding. Paraphyses simple, few, intermixed with the asci. Asci athoniomorphous. Ascospores hyaline, transversely septate. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Müller 1884).

 Type species: Asteroporum perminimum Müll. Arg.

Notes: Asteroporum is characterised by peridial and monohymenia apothecia, athoniomorphous asci and hyaline, transversely septate ascospores. Molecular data is unavailable for Asteroporum. Research is scarce regarding this genus. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of Asteroporum.
