Anopeltis

Anopeltis Bat. & Peres, Nova Hedwigia 2: 472 (1960).

Index Fungorum number: IF 210; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12127, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Foliar epiphyte on leaves. Sexual morph: Thallus comprising superficial, olive-brown, cylindrical, branching, irregularly reticulate, septate hyphae, lacking setae. Ascostromata semi-immersed, dark-brown to brown at the margin, flattened, round, scattered, surrounded with mycelium, the locule/asci produced under the stromata, hypostromata central or lateral. Ascostromata wall composed of angular brown cells. Peridium thin. Asexual morph: Conidia clavate or oblong, uniseptate, deeply constricted at the septum, thick walled, wrinkled (adapted from Chomnunti et al. 2011).

Type species: Anopeltis venezuelensis Bat. & Peres

Notes: Anopeltis is characterised by superficial, olive-brown, cylindrical thallus, and dark-brown to brown, flattened ascostromata. The asexual morph is characterised by clavate or oblong, uniseptate conidia, deeply constricted at the septum. Chomnunti et al. (2011) studied the holotype specimen of A. venezuelensis (K(M) 171577) and referred Anopeltis to Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis based on the semi-immersed ascomata, lack of mycelium and peridium of textura angularis. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of Anopeltis.
