Alysidiella
Alysidiella Crous, in Summerell et al., Fungal Diversity 23: 325 (2006).
Index Fungorum number: IF 510004; Facesoffungi number: FoF 06728, 4 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.
Hyphomycetous, foliicolous. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata sporodochial, consisting of brown, verrucose, thick-walled, branched, septate, hyphae. Conidiogenous cells holoblastic, scars indistinct to thickened along the rim, not darkened nor refractive. Setae and hyphopodia absent. Conidia dry, in branched or simple acropetal chains, ellipsoidal to subcylindrical, medium brown, thick-walled, verruculose, aseptate to multiseptated (adapted from Summerell et al. 2006).
Type species: Alysidiella parasitica Crous
Notes: Alysidiella is characterised by sporodochial conidiomata, holoblastic conidiogenous cells and ellipsoidal to subcylindrical conidia. Alysidiella morphologically resembles Alysidium, Heteroconium and Taeniolella but has some subtle differences. Alysidiella differs from Alysidium in that the latter has aseptate conidia. Alysidiella differs from Heteroconium as the latter has multiseptate conidia. Alysidiella also differs from Taeniolella which has multiseptate conidia and lacks aerial mycelium. Alysidiella is phylogenetically distinct from Alysidium, Heteroconium and Taeniolella and these three genera are polyphyletic (Summerell et al. 2006). Crous et al. (2009) provided the new combination Thyrinula parasitica based on a specimen from Colombia (CPC 36157). Thyrinula is a distinct and type genus of Thyrinulaceae. Crous et al. (2009) mentioned that T. parasitica (≡ Alysidiella parasitica) is phylogenetically distinct from other Thyrinula species known from sequence data and intraspecific variation exists for this species. Whether Alysidiella is really a synonym of Thyrinula is therefore doubtful. We follow Hongsanan et al. (2020b) and retain Alysidiella in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis until fresh collections with DNA sequence data are obtained. Molecular markers available for Alysidiella are ITS and LSU.
