Importance and distribution

Lichenopeltella comprises 48 species known on a wide range of hosts such as dead leaves of Carex sempervirens (Cyperaceae), dead leaves and stems of Ammophila arenaria (Poaceae), thallus or, rarely, apothecia of Arctomia sp. (Arctomiaceae), bark of Thuja plicata (Cupressaceae), thallus of Biatora flavopunctata (Ramalinaceae), thallus of Cetraria islandica (Parmeliaceae), Hypotrachyna (Parmeliaceae), thallus of Verrucaria muralis (Verrucariaceae), decaying cupules of Fagus sylvatica (Fagaceae), leaves of Calamus muelleri in subtropical rainforest (Arecaceae), dead leaves of Cupressus (Cupressaceae), Chamaecyparis (Cupressaceae) and many others. Lichenopeltella has been mainly reported from several localities in Europe (Scandinavia, Germany, Austria and France).
