Importance and distribution

There are 150 Dothidella epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but many species have been transferred to other genera such as Achorella, Arthopyrenia, Asterotexis, Atopospora, Coccochora, Coccoidella, Coniella, Cyclotheca, Darwiniella, Diplochorella, Diplodia, Dothidasteromella, Dothidea, Endodothella, Gibbera, Isomunkia, Leveillina, Microcyclus, Mycosphaerella, Omphalospora, Phaeodothiopsis, Phaeodothis, Phoma, Phycomelaina, Phyllachora, Phylleutypa, Placostroma, Platychora, Polythrincium, Pseudocercospora, Pseudomeliola, Pseudothis, Pyrenobotrys, Pyrenocollema, Rehmiodothis, Rhagadolobium, Rhopographus, Rosenscheldiella, Scirrhia, Septomazzantia, Stegophora, Stigmochora, Systremma, Telimena and Uleodothis. Dothidella comprises 34 species known on a wide range of plants such as Trichocline argentea (Asteraceae), Epilobium angustifolium (Onagraceae), Agrostis rivularis (Poaceae), Alnus crispa (Betulaceae), Andira inermis (Fabaceae), Angelica archangelica (Apiaceae), Ocotea acutifolia (Lauraceae), Aristida dichotoma (Poaceae), Distichlis spicata (Poaceae), Solanum sp. (Solanaceae), Bambusa sp. (Poaceae), and Asplenium dentatum (Aspleniaceae). Dothidella is reported from Asia (Myanmar), Europe (Portugal), North America (Caribbean (Haiti, Puerto Rico), Greenland, The United States) and South America (Argentina, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Uruguay).
