Ophioparodia

Ophioparodia Petr. & Cif., Annls mycol. 30(3/4): 223 (1932).

Index Fungorum number: IF 3610; Facesoffungi number: FoF 07884, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Parasitic on the lower surface of living leaves. Sexual morph: Ascomata superficial, seated on a subiculum, solitary to gregarious, globose to subglobose, with apical pore, surrounded by brown mycelium. Peridium comprising multi-layers of brown to dark brown cells of textura angularis, inner layers compressed, lacking pseudoparaphyses. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, cylindrical to subclavate, sessile, slightly curved, apex rounded. Ascospores fasciculate, cylindrical fusiform, straight to slightly curved, multi-septate, not constricted at the septa, hyaline to pale brown, smooth-walled. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Boonmee et al. 2017).

Type species: Ophioparodia pulchra Petr. & Cif.

Notes: Ophioparodia was introduced by Petrak and Ciferri (1932) with O. pulchra as type species. Ophioparodia resembles Nematothecium in having superficial, globose to subglobose, uniloculate ascomata, cylindrical asci and long, multiseptateascospores and a hyphomycetous asexual morph. Boonmee et al. (2017) placed Ophioparodia in Nematotheciaceae. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Ophioparodia.
