Staibia Bat. & Peres, in Batista et al., Atas Inst. Micol. Univ. Pernambuco 3: 142 (1966).

Index Fungorum number: IF 5181; Facesoffungi number: FoF 07973, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Ascomata subcuticular, dark brown, orbicular, dimidiate. Ostiole and paraphyses absent. Ascospores hyaline, oblong to subovoid and uniseptate. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Batista et al. 1966).

Type species: Staibia connari Bat. & Peres.

Notes: Staibia is characterised by subcuticular, dark brown, orbicular, dimidiate ascomata, bitunicate and globose asci and hyaline, oblong to subovoid, uniseptate ascospores. Batista et al. (1966) treated Staibia in Leptopeltidaceae. This was followed by subsequent authors (Arx & Müller 1975, Lumbsch & Huhndorf 2010, Hyde et al. 2013, Wijayawardene et al. 2014, 2018). Staibia is a distinct genus in Leptopeltidaceae but lacks molecular data. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of the genus.
