Importance and distribution
There are 13 Leptopeltis epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but four species have been transferred to Cyclotheca, Fouragea and Leptothyrium. Leptopeltis comprises nine species known on dead leaves of Pteridium aquilinum (Dennstaedtiaceae), Athyrium filix-femina (Athyriaceae), Dryopteris (Dryopteridaceae), Leucadendron (Proteaceae), Phagopteris polypolioides (Thelypteridaceae) and Polystichum pseudomakinoi (Dryopteridaceae). Leptopeltis is reported from Asia (India, Japan), Europe (Czech Republic, Norway, United Kingdom), South Africa and the United States (New York).
