Importance and distribution
There are 111 Dimerium epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but many have been transferred to other genera such as Acantharia, Antennulariella, Asterina, Balladyna, Dimerina, Dothidasteromella, Dysrhynchis, Englera, Englerulaster, Epipolaeum, Gaillardiella, Immotthia, Kusanobotrys, Meliolina, Periline, Perisporiopsis, Phaeocryptopus, Phaeodimeriella, Porostigme, Protoventuria, Pseudomeliola, Schiffnerula, Stomatogene and Xenomeris. Currently, there are 72 species in Dimerium but they lack molecular data. Dimerium species are distributed on a wide range of hosts in Apocynaceae, Arecaceae, Asteraceae, Cannabaceae, Englerulaceae, Lamiaceae, Lauraceae, Malvaceae, Melastomataceae, Meliaceae, Meliolaceae, Olacaceae, Pinaceae, Polystomellaceae, Rubiaceae, Sapotaceae and Solanaceae. Dimerium species have a wide geographical distribution recorded from Africa (Sierra Leone), Asia (Japan, Java, Philippines, Tanzania), Caribbean (Dominican Republic), Central America (Costa Rica) and South America (Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay).
