Moringomyces

Moringomyces Crous, in Crous et. al., Persoonia 45: 323 (2020).

Index Fungorum number: IF 837855; Facesoffungi number: FoF 11104, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Mycelium consisting of hyaline, smooth, septate, branched, hyphae. Hyphal cells becoming swollen, brown, roughened, forming intercalary chains of chlamydospores enclosed in mucoid sheath, initially transversely septate, becoming muriformly septate, becoming swollen, eventually forming microsclerotia (adapted from Crous et al. 2020).

Type species: Moringomyces phantasmae Crous

Notes: Moringomyces is characterised by hyaline, smooth, septate mycelium, swollen, brown, roughened hyphal cells forming intercalary chains of chlamydospores. Moringomyces morphologically resembles Arxiella, Aureobasidium and Pseudosydowia but differs in forming microsclerotia. Moringomyces is a distinct genus in Saccotheciaceae. ITS and LSU sequences are available for M. phantasmae.
