Neodothiora

Neodothiora Crous, G.C. Adams & Winton, in Crous et. al., Persoonia 45: 325 (2020).

Index Fungorum number: IF 837857; Facesoffungi number: FoF 11101, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata solitary, erumpent, brown, subglobose, pycnidial, with central ostiole, exuding a crystalline mucoid conidial cirrhus; wall of 6–8 layers of brown textura angularis. Conidiophores reduced to conidiogenous cells lining the inner cavity, hyaline, smooth, ampulliform, proliferating percurrently. Conidiogenous cells also occurring solitary on superficial hyphae, subcylindrical, hyaline, smooth, proliferating percurrently at apex. Conidia solitary, hyaline, smooth, aseptate, guttulate, ellipsoid, apex subobtuse, tapering to truncate apex (adapted from Crous et al. 2020).

Type species: Neodothiora populina Crous, G.C. Adams & Winton

Notes: Neodothiora is characterised by solitary, erumpent, brown, subglobose conidiomata, subcylindrical, hyaline, smooth conidiogenous cells and solitary, hyaline, smooth, aseptate, guttulate, ellipsoid conidia. Neodothiora resembles Dothiora in having dothichiza and hormonema-like morphs in culture but is phylogenetically distinct (Crous and Groenewald 2016, 2017; Crous et al. 2020). Neodothiora is a distinct genus in Dothideaceae. Molecular markers available for Neodothiora include ITS, LSU, BTUB and TEF-1.
